Virginia Master Naturalist Program To maintain certification as a Virginia Master Naturalist you need to complete 8 hours of Advanced Training each year. To help the Chapter's members satisfy that requirement, the Board of Directors has formed an Advanced Training Committee. This committee is charged with both running the Chapter's internal training programs and making the membership aware of training opportunities elsewhere.
The content must be in accordance with the goals of the Virginia Master Naturalist Program. This should involve the Natural History of Virginia or the skills necessary to perform volunteer work associated with Natural History. This should involve a formal program presented by some organization. Reading books or watching Nature-oriented television shows or videos would not qualify. This should be directed to a specific topic. A general nature walk or bird walk would not qualify.
The Advanced Training Committee will offer frequent internal training classes. Check the Calendar page for the latest listings. Unless specifically stated otherwise, our internal classes are open to the general public. We do request a donation from those not associated with a Master Naturalist Program to help defray expenses (suggested $5.00).
To register for an internal class, please email vmnbansheereeks@gmail.com
Directions to the preserve are available from the Friends of Banshee Reeks directions page.
Training opportunities include local colleges and universities, programs offered by state and local agencies, programs offered by area parks, and programs offered by various non-profit organizations. Check out the following:
When you take outside training we ask that you record the class on the Members Page.
