(CE) The Secret Life and Folklore of Winter Trees
January 21, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-secret-life-and-folklore-of-winter-trees-tickets-135452531167
Join Capital Nature and well-known local naturalist Alonso Abugattas, the Capital Naturalist, for a fascinating talk on trees during the winter months. Evergreens like American Hollies and Eastern Cedars provide life-sustaining food and shelter to birds and other wildlife, and reward us with sightings of refreshing green and red. Deciduous trees reveal stunning winter forms while they gather strength for the spring blooms. With a keen eye you can recognize amazing oaks, beech trees, and sycamores by their distinctive bark, nuts, and fruits. Alonso will draw on his abundant knowledge of the natural world, and on legends of indigenous peoples to reveal the amazing living world of trees in winter.
Alonso Abugattas is an award-winning naturalist, storyteller, and environmental educator, who shares his lifetime of experience and knowledge on the Capital Naturalist blog and online platform with Washington DC area nature explorers. He also serves as the Senior Natural Resources Manager for Arlington County, VA.
Capital Nature is a regional nonprofit in the Washington DC metropolitan area. Our mission is to bring nature into the lives of area residents and visitors through shared information and stories, unique nature experiences, and nature-based strategies for human and community health.
This is the first program in a collaborative series between Capital Nature and Capital Naturalist exploring and appreciating winter nature in the Washington DC area.
